As if it could get any more bizarre. I ran across this Todd Bentley audio clip in my internet travels and had to shake my head in disbelief and despair. If you had any doubt that Todd Bentley is a dangerous false prophet you need to take a look at this. Below is the actual quote from Bentley.
“Now for some of you that are here, it doesn't really matter to you ... all that stuff. All you care about is ... God's moving. And you know what, that's all that really matters. So if you're not big on prophetic, supernatural, and angels, I'm sorry. It's my testimony. But if you want to know why God's moving, I have to tell you the whole story. And if you don't believe the story, well......sorry.
So essentially Todd is saying that God is moving because of the supernatural and angels- HUH?
You know, I told the Lord, "Why can't I just move in healing and forget talking about all that -other stuff?" He said, "
Because, Todd you've got to get the people to believe in the angel." I said, "God, why do I want people to believe in the angel? Isn't it about getting the people to believe in Jesus?" He said, "The people already believe in Jesus, but the Church doesn't believe in the supernatural."
So Todd Bentley is telling us that getting people to believe in THE angel is more important than preaching Jesus. There are a few things that concern me here (aside from the obvious). Todd Bentley’s lord” is telling him that he has to get people to believe in THE angel. He doesn’t say Todd, get them to believe in angels (which would be strange in and of itself) but he clearly says THE angel. What angel is Todd referring to? Emma? Samael? The Winds of Change Angel? The Financial Angel? The Angel of Liberty? The Healing Revival Angel? William Branham’s angel? I mean his teachings are rife with angels so who is THE angel that his “lord” want him to make us believe in? I want to note that in the early days Bentley made reference on stage to his angel Emma to whom he attributed the healings. Bentley even invited people onstage at one point so that the angel could enter them. If you read his teaching on “The Angelic Host” he talks at great length about her. However, after the outcry from discerning Christians and the many articles and blogs on the internet condemning him as a heretic, the references to Emma magically disappeared from his website. Now you see them- now you don’t- Poor, poor Emma.Anyway, Todd goes on to say the following:
“The Church has no problem believing in Jesus, what we don't believe in is the supernatural. We don't believe in angels. We don't believe in the prophetic. We don't believe in some of what's going on. And I'll tell you what; we need to have an awakening.
I said, "Well, God, maybe you want to give this ministry to somebody else, because nobody's going to receive it in the package that I come in." I said, "You gotta give me the most controversial testimony? You gotta visit me with all this supernatural stuff? I mean, hey, maybe if I was a little more clean-shaven and polished, people would believe me more." Or maybe, the world is looking for something new... How many of you believe we need something new?”
So, Todd Bentley is lamenting to God that people were not going to receive his ministry because of the package that he (Bentley) came in. Well, that’s odd, Todd Bentley WAS clean cut and clean shaven yet he tattooed and pierced himself well after he had an established ministry. If he was going to complain to God that no one would receive him because of this then why did he do it? Next he is complaining that God is visiting him with all this supernatural stuff yet he is the one actively pursuing it.
Am I the only one who thinks this is completely and utterly insane?

I was in the apostolic and prophetic movement for many many years, was a part of Rick Joyners Ministry school and have friends that are ministering with Todd Bentley. I have had the manifestations, pretty much all of them. I do not come against it because I do not understand it- I come against it because I understand it all too well.

Although some of what Bentley says is easy to get confused I think that what he's saying is completely true and very critical to the time we're in. I find drug addicts more aware of the spiritual realities in the world than loyal church goers. Generally, the church provides a safe zone for people to come and open up and hear sermons based on themes of personal growth and accepting Christ's love. The church has evolved from one generation to the next by adapting to pop culture and working humor into their message. This makes a lot of people feel comfortable and makes the church seems less threatening. This strategy has made the church very focused on what is seen and church people have generally become completely wrapped up in their personal relationship with God. Church presents life like this:
"...not as bad as you think because the creator of the universe loves you and if you accept that Christ died for you than you'll get to be in heaven someday. Until then try to be humble and aware of how you sin and constantly perfect your relationship with God because that is the right thing to do."
With all this focus on the self and trendy little routines (devotions, small groups...) the church has failed to open an awareness to the evil that is present right now. The fact that church people can be distracted be something skin-deep like tattoos and piercings on a preacher shows that they have been trained to look at what is seen and judge him before they can fully absorb what he is saying and be left with a completely bias view of his message. The fact that he got his tattoos and piercings fully aware of how he would be judged shows his boldness and commitment to Christ. Even if he got them just to make a point I still feel like that would be a very noble action.
Anyways, I think the church talks ABOUT the forces of good and evil and gives people a very good picture of what it is but lives in the Biblical past. There is barely any true awareness of what isn't expected. Yes people can say,
"Oh, you're at a bar where there is drinking and sexual dancing. There is evil there because I know that those things are a tool of the devil."
But does the church bring people closer to feeling the spiritual realm without needing to think? If there were demons in the church how would anyone there ever know? How come so many people are viewed for what evil they do instead of what evil does to them? Why does the church get uncomfortable when people mention evil? Jesus suffered like crazy in isolation. Near the end of his life nobody understood him not even his disciples. They didn't understand why he needed to die. Knowledge of what it says in the Bible is very key. But how is it different from anything else on this earth if there is no sense of the spirit's underneath everything we see? The church rejects so many people that feel what Jesus felt because they don't fit into the right box. They say,
"here is how we will help you and you must believe this. if you tell us that there are still demons messing with your head after we've cast them out then you're just crazy and you should come back after you get some medication."
The church could be so powerful in this world. It could fight so much evil. But there is so much emphasis on the self which brings upon guilt which brings upon judgment which bring upon total blindness to what is unseen. I don't know this Tod Bentley guy and I'll probably never watch one of his video's again. But what he's saying is way more revolutionary than any other preacher I've heard.
